3G helps Ace Cafe London Celebrate 70th anniversary of a legend

October 21, 2008

We are helping the legendary Ace Cafe London to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its original opening back in 1938. The cafe was originally opened on the North Circular Road in London, as a transport cafe for truck and lorry drivers. The cafe quickly became a place where motorbike riders gathered and this year, a number of celebrations have been planned to commemorate the opening including the 15th Annual Ace Cafe Reunion Weekend & Ride with the Rockers. We have been working closely with the Ace Cafe London catering team to ensure its celebrations run smoothly and its customers get great food and ‘ace’ service 70 years on.

We supply over 45 products to Ace Cafe London, ranging from traditional battered cod and breaded scampi to Baileys cheesecake and deep dish apple pie. “Our customers are quite an extraordinary array of people and 3G helps us to satisfy their different tastes on a daily basis”, said Mark Wilsmore, Managing Director of Ace Cafe London. “We have people of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities coming to eat. We serve everyone from groups of youngsters who share a basic plate of chips to discerning diners who enjoy dishes from our specials board. 3G offers us a wide range of staple and premium products to cater for our diverse clientele and also for our ongoing calendar of events – some of which include catering for thousands!”

testBen Smales, Managing Director of 3G Food Service & Seafood Solutions comments: “We wish everyone at Ace Cafe London a successful 70th anniversary year. The cafe is famous all over the world as a legendary venue with an amazing reputation for hospitality.  We are able to offer Ace Cafe London a range of products and imaginative meal suggestions that satisfy the huge variety, and numbers, of customers who visit.  3G is constantly developing and expanding its product list and has recently introduced 70 new products.  We know that it’s just as important to listen to your customers today as it was 70 years ago!”

In 1938 Ace Cafe had a state-of-the-art kitchen with home-made food being prepared and cooked on the premises.  Sadly, in 1969 the cafe served its last egg and chips.  To mark the 25th anniversary of the cafe’s closure Mark Wilsmore and his friends organised a reunion and arranged for motorcycle runs to converge at the former Ace Cafe site on 4 September 1994.  From then major steps were taken to reopen the Ace Cafe.  The original site was bought by Ace Cafe London and, after a complete rebuild, September 2001 saw the Grand Opening of the famous bikers haunt with a kitchen designed for the 21st century.

“The building has been designed to give us maximum flexibility for food service and as a venue for a whole range of events,” said Mark.  “We can easily change from seating 100 customers at tables to removing all the furniture, opening up the space and catering for thousands.  We have very little on site storage for food so forward planning is key and we rely on 3G to deliver exactly what we need and when we need it.”

The website www.ace-cafe-london.com celebrates the unique history, culture and style of the Ace Cafe and what it represents.  The annual Ace Cafe Reunion Weekend is a focus in the motorcycling calendar for all those who are not only interested in the Ace Cafe, Ton Up and rocker heritage but also for many others who enjoy a weekend full of motorbikes and fun!  In addition to its regular customers and events, Ace Cafe London also caters for film and photo shoots including the Top Gear TV programme, product and service launches.
